I am delighted to welcome you to the plenary session of the second Russia–Africa Summit. Delegates from the overwhelming majority of African states and the heads of leading regional organisations have come here, which is convincing proof of the mutual striving of our nations to develop cooperation in all areas and to strengthen honest, open and constructive partnership.

Vladimir Putin delivered a speech at the gala reception for participants in the second Russia–Africa Summit. 

President of Russia Vladimir Putin: Ladies and gentlemen, friends,

I would like to extend my heartfelt welcome once again to the participants in the second Russia–Africa Summit and the Russia–Africa Economic and Humanitarian Forum. Friends, we are happy that heads of state and government and leading politicians and government officials from practically all African countries have arrived in St Petersburg. The leaders of executive bodies of African integration associations are also present here.

Vladimir Putin took part in the plenary session of the Russia–Africa Economic and Humanitarian Forum.

Also taking part in the session were Chairperson of the African Union and President of the Union of the Comoros Azali Assoumani, Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia, President and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the African Export–Import Bank Benedict Oramah, and President of the New Development Bank Dilma Rousseff.Director of the Russian Academy of Sciences Institute for African Studies Irina Abramova moderated the discussion.

The forum’s main topic was Technology and Security in the Name of Sovereign Development for the Benefit of Humankind.
