Plant Diplomacy: Opening of Siberian Section of Royal Botanic Garden
On 10th March the Russian Consul General in Edinburgh Mr Andrey Pritsepov together with the Director of the Main Moscow Botanic Garden Mr Alexander Demidov and the Regius Keeper of the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh took part in the opening ceremony of the Siberian exhibition in Edinburgh.
It is planned that in next few years the Main Moscow Botanic Garden would see an opening of a Scottish Section. Exhibition exchange became possible through Consulate’s initiative, which is a good example of plant diplomacy i.e. using the universal language of nature in order to foster mutual understanding in times of complicated international climate.
The Memorandum of Collaboration, which will promote further cooperation between Russian and Scottish scientist along the lines of Moscow and Edinburgh Botanic Gardens, was signed by Mr Demidov and Mr Milne during the visit of the delegation from the Main Moscow Botanic to Scotland.
