On 28 November the film "Battalion", produced by Igor Ugolnikov, was shown at the London office of Russian cultural centre Rossotrudnichestvo. The film tells the tragic story of the First Battalion of Death, a women-only Russian combat unit of WW1, created by the Russian Provisional Government in spring 1917 to bolster the fighting spirit of its war-weary and demoralized troops. Battalion received a number of international film awards.
Politicians, academics, cultural personalities attended the reception at the Embassy that followed. The screening is one of the special events of the Russian Film Week.
On 29 November, Cambridge will see a screening of WW1 international film almanac produced by the same team, and on 30 November another screnning of Battalion takes place at UCL, finishing a season of events dedicated to the centenary of the Brusilov offensive and Russian participation in WW1.
