Sculpture of Joseph Brodsky unveiled in London
On 30 March 2016 a bronze bust of the Russian poet, Nobel Prize laureate Joseph Brodsky was unveiled at Waterstones Piccadilly bookshop by the poet's daughter Anna Brodsky. The portrait is a gift of the young Russian sculptor Kirill Bobylev, who created it earlier this month. The sculpture will be displayed at the Russian Bookshop on the 4th floor of the Waterstones flagship store until it moves to a permanent location at a University where Russian is taught and which Brodsky visited. The event is a project of the Russian Maecenas magazine, Russian Poets Fund and the recently formed Russian Heritage committee.
Kirill Bobylev, Yulia Popova (for Russian Maecenas magazine), Valentina Polukhina (Russian Poets Fund), Anna Brodsky received Ambassador's letters of recognition.
Joseph Brodsky had a deep interest towards the English literature, culture and life. He was friends with many British poets and writers, made numerous translations. In August 2015, to mark his 75 anniversary, a plaque was unveiled at 20 Hampsted Hill Gardens, where he used to stay when in London.
