On 19 September 2015 an international conference titled "The Wide wide world of Leo Tolstoy", jointly organized by the All-Russia State Library for Foreign Literature, the Moscow Institute of Translation, the State Museum-Estate of Yasnaya Polyana and Moffat Book Events, is launched in the town of Moffat.
Among the participants of the conference are employees of All-Russia State Library for Foreign Literature, headed by the general director of the library Mr Vadim Duda, staff of The Institute for Literary Translation, including the director of the Institute Mr Evgeny Reznichenko, senior employees of Diplomatic Academy of Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia, representatives of the State Museum-Estate of Yasnaya Polyana, scholars from Russian, European and USA universities, writers and literary critics.
At the opening of the conference a minute of silence was observed in the memory of the distinguished philologist, long-standing head of All-Russia State Library for Foreign Literature from 1993 – 2015 Ms Ekaterina Urievna Genieva.
At the same time with the conference in Moffat two Russian painting exhibitions dedicated to Leo Tolstoy and his works are were opened.
Speaking at the opening session of the conference, the Russian Consul General Mr Andrey Pritsepov noted the everlasting importance of the great writer’s humanistic views, which are especially relevant in the context of the difficult situation for international relations.
